To help ease cost-of-living pressures in our province, on April 29, 2026, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced an increase to the 2026 basic personal amount from $11,188 to $13,094, effective January 1, 2026. The basic personal amount is the portion of income you can earn each year before paying income tax.
Because the lower basic personal amount was applied to your income for the first half of the year, a higher basic personal amount will be used to calculate tax deductions for the remaining months of 2026. This adjustment ensures that you receive the benefit of the higher basic personal amount for the full year. As a result, less tax will be deducted from your pension payment starting July 31, 2026, and you will see a small increase in your net pay for the remainder of this year.
This change will be applied automatically, so you do not need to take any action. You can view your pay stub, which shows your pay details, by logging into your personal account at myPENSION. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us using the information below.
